Yoga is the ancient science (over 5000 years old) of right living and balance in our daily life.
The word yoga is derived from the Sanskrit word yuj, which means ‘to unite’.
Practising yoga is therefore uniting all aspects of the person: physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual.
Yoga works on all levels
From the physical, yoga moves on to the mental and emotional levels.
Once we learn about our physical body, we can integrate our thoughts and emotions and create harmony within ourselves.
Body awareness
The best way to find harmony is to learn about oneself. To do so, we must cultivate awareness.
Feeling where our body is, where tension is enable us to correct our posture accordingly.
Adults
Quite often we hold onto our painful areas, most possible attaching a thought or an emotion to the pain.
Yoga helps us to become aware of which parts of our body hold on to tension.
This process enables us to evacuate the associated pain.
Children
Excellent age to create good habits and maintain their flexibility of body, develop healthy thoughts and balance their emotions.
Stress management
We experience dis-ease when either our physical, mental (thoughts) or/and emotional body are out of balance.
Dis-eases express themselves in the form of stress (mental, emotional) or tension (physical).
They create blockages and disharmony. If left unattended, they can cause deeper inner wounds like recurrent illnesses.
Yoga helps remove these blockages by first working on the outer part, the physical body, with the practice of postures and breathing techniques.
Pain management
Learning breathing techniques is the key to self-awareness and dealing with pain.
Special conditions and disabilities
Impairments may often challenge a person’s ability to be aware of his/her body and therefore create extra stress in terms of muscle pain, diseases or general imbalance.
Yoga is a gentle therapeutic approach, which will benefit all levels of awareness: physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual.
Asthma, disabilities, spine problems, muscle pain, cancer, pregnancy… can all benefit from yogic management.
Holistic approach
I combine music, props (equipment), visualisation, breathing and cleansing techniques, meditation, acu-yoga, information on other alternative approaches, swimming with disabilities…
